If you have arrived on this page you are probably new to the sport and wondering what it is all about and how to get from knowing nothing to being a kite surfer out there amongst it.
Kitesurfing is the ultimate wind powered water water sport where the rider uses a large kite to pull them across the water on some form of board. It draws on skills and techniques from a whole variety of sports from windsurfing, surfing and sailing to wakeboarding, snowboarding and skating but the beauty is you don't need to have any sort of background in these disciplines to give it a go. What you will need is a sense of adventure and you need to be fairly comfortable in deep water (being able to swim is a pretty shrewd move in this game). Young or old, male or female, this sport is open to all!
Still interested? Well the first thing you need is lessons. It is not difficult to master the basics but like any extreme sport you will progress far more quickly and safely if you start out with a professional instructor. When you join the RNRMKA we will help you arrange discounted lessons in a location convenient for you. A typical course lasts for 3 days and covers the following:
1. Kite handling skills on dry land...
Lessons Day 1 - Its all about the kite!
2. Dealing with the kite on the
water...
Lessons Day 2 - Water based kite handling skills
3. Putting it all together...
Lessons Day 3 - Putting it all together!
By the end of your course you
will be ready to go it alone and before you know it you
will be out there cruising with the rest of us. From there
on in the options are endless. You can cruise the local
flats, dabble in the world of speed or course sailing. You
can start working up to those insane jumps or maybe you
fancy the challenge of wave riding or technical Nu Skool
moves. Whatever flicks your switch it is all good (if you
want more information check out the British Kite Surfing
Association website).
There is nothing like the first time you put it all
together an RIDE!
So there you have it. If this
is the sport for you why not join today? The sooner you
do the sooner you can get out and ride!
